Edirne Region Dances

  1. Men’s Dances: Kabadayı, Yarım Kasap, İstanbul Kasabı, Düz Kasap, Yarım Burgaz, Debreli Hasan and men’s greeting dances.
  2. Women’s Dances: Women’s dances are performances accompanied by the renowned songs of the region usually performed as greeting. These are dances with lyrics performed along with the songs such asYüksek Yüksek Tepelere Ev Kurmasınlar, Sülman Ağa, Kızılcıklar Oldumu, Atlama oyunu, Bağa gider.
  3. Mixed Dances: Selanik, Arzu ile Kamber, Balkan Gaydası, Galamatya (Galamata ), Kazibem, Zigoş, Pomak Gaydası, Fatoş, Gel Seyrek, İstefalka, Tulum

REGIONAL INSTRUMENTS:

Field Instruments: Drum and Zurna ( double drums, double zurnas) There are two drums one of which is called the frontier and the other one as follower. While one of the Zurnas play the main melody, the other one shifts the rythm; therefore they are named as the frontier and the shifter. Also, instruments such as Dare, Tef, Dümbelek and Zilli maşa are used fort he women’s dances.

MEN’S DANCES:

Kabadayı 5/8, ( 3+2) Yarım Kasap 4/4, İstanbul Kasabı 4/4, Düz Kasap 4/4, Yarım Burgaz 4/4, Debreli Hasan 10/8 ( 2+3+2+3) and most of men’s greeting dances 4/4 where there are dances performed with 9/8 (2+2+2+3) pace.

WOMEN’S DANCES:

These dances are accompanied by the renowned songs of the region performed by women usually with the pacing of 9/8 (2+2+2+3),while some of them being perfomed with 4/4 ve 7/8 (3+2+2). Example: Dances performed with 9/8 pacing; “ Yüksek Yüksek tepeler”, “ Kızılcıklar Oldumu”, Dances performed with 4/4 pacing; Atlama oyunu, Bağa gider oduna.Dances performed with 7/8 (3+2+2); Galamatya, Sülman Ağa 9/8, (2+2+2+3) etc.

MIXED DANCES:

Selanik 9/8 (2 + 2 + 2 + 3). Arzu ile Kamber 7/8 (3 + 2 + 2). Balkan Gaydası 12/8 (3 + 3 + 3 + 3). Galamatya 7/8 (3 + 2 + 2). Kazibem 9 / 8 (2 + 2 + 2 + 3). Zigoş 9/8 (2 + 2 + 2 + 3). Pomak Gaydası 4/4. Fatoş 10/8 (2 + 3 + 2 + 3). Gel seyrek 7/8 (3 + 2 + 2). İstefalka 7/8 (3 + 2 + 2). Tulum 9/8 (2 + 2 + 2 + 3) performed with lining.

VILLAGES WHERE FOLK DANCES ARE PERFORMED :

  1. KASAP STYLE DANCES: Balkan villages Ömeroba, Vaysal, Sarıdanişment, Süleymandanişment, Hacıdanişment,Süleoğlu and other villages of Lalapaşa.
  2. GREETING DANCES: These dances are commonly performed in all of Edirne’s villages.
  3. MIXED DANCES: These dances are performed in the villages of Uzunköprü, Keşan,( Mahmut köy, Lalcık)İpsala, Meriç ( Küplü, Subaşı, Kadı Dondurma) where the intensity of refugees is high.
